JOB PURPOSE
We are seeking an experienced Health Promotion Specialist to support the implementation of the introduction of a new vaccine targeting adolescents. The specialist will lead efforts to raise awareness, increase community acceptance, and promote behavior change around adolescent immunization, community engagement, communication strategy, and stakeholder coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Design & Planning
- Assess the community’s current knowledge and perception of the vaccine within the target population.
- Identify potential barriers and opportunities to improve communication.
- Support the creation of culturally appropriate and engaging content to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination.
- Develop adolescent-friendly health promotion strategies aligned with national immunization goals and global best practices.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Create and adapt adolescent-focused materials including posters, social media content, videos, and brochures.
- Collaborate with media outlets to develop radio spots, youth testimonials, and public service announcements that resonate with teens and young adults.
- Integrate storytelling and youth voices into all communication efforts to increase relevance and impact.
Stakeholder Coordinator
- Hold regular meetings with representatives from each ministry to review progress, address challenges, and adjust strategies, particularly for adolescent girls, parents, caregivers, teachers, and health workers.
- Train healthcare workers, school health personnel, and youth mentors on adolescent health communication, risk perception, and behavior change strategies.
- Represent the health promotion component in coordination meetings and technical working groups related to vaccine introduction and adolescent health.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Develop tools to measure shifts in adolescent knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding immunization.
- Analyze feedback from young people and stakeholders to refine outreach approaches.
- Document and share success stories, lessons learned, and youth-driven innovations in vaccine promotion.
Qualifications, competencies, and experience
- An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Public Administration, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Project Management (with a Health Focus), or other relevant majors.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in health promotion, youth engagement, or adolescent health programming.
- Strong knowledge of behavior change communication and immunization strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of crafting communication plans for health campaigns targeting adolescents.
- Experience working with government health departments, NGOs, and international organizations.
- Proficiency in English and French.
