ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project aims to evaluate AI-enabled clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) used by frontline health workers , generating robust real-world evidence to improve health outcomes, system efficiency, and equity. By focusing on workflow integration, usability, and rigorous impact evaluations , the initiative helps health systems and ministries of health in low- and middle-income countries use data and evidence to make informed decisions regarding the responsible deployment and scale-up of AI tools within primary health care settings.

Reporting to: Programme Director.

Location: Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia (with in-country travel to regional offices as required).

1. Field Implementation Officers (2–3 positions)

        Key Responsibilities

        1. Field Deployment and Training

        • Support rollout of the CDST across selected study sites.
        • Conduct training sessions for frontline health workers on tool use, including clinical workflows and decision-support functions.
        • Provide refresher training and on-site coaching to reinforce correct usage.

        2. Workflow Integration

        • Facilitate integration of the CDST into routine service delivery processes.
        • Support health workers to incorporate the tool into consultation, triage, and referral workflows.
        • Identify and document workflow bottlenecks and operational challenges.

        3. Supervision and Support

        • Provide ongoing on-site and remote support to frontline users.
        • Monitor adherence to intended use of the tool (e.g., frequency of use, correct application).
        • Troubleshoot basic operational issues and escalate technical problems to the Technical Product Support team.

        4. Data Collection Support

        • Support implementation of data collection protocols, including facility registers, digital logs, and survey tools where applicable.
        • Ensure completeness and timeliness of routine data capture.
        • Coordinate with the Monitoring & Data Officer to validate field-level data.

        5. Implementation Monitoring

        • Track tool usage patterns (e.g., uptake, adherence, override behaviour).
        • Document implementation fidelity and variations across sites.
        • Record qualitative insights on usability, acceptability, and user experience.

        6. Stakeholder Engagement

        • Maintain regular communication with facility staff and local health authorities.
        • Support coordination with the Ministry of Health and implementing partners at sub-national level.
        • Facilitate feedback loops between frontline users and the project team.

        Required Qualifications and Experience

        • Degree in public health, nursing, health sciences, or related field
        • Experience working in primary health care or community health settings
        • Experience in training and supervision of frontline health workers
        • Familiarity with digital health tools or data collection systems
        • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

        Required Competencies

        • Ability to engage constructively with health workers and local authorities
        • Ability to work in low-resource and field-based environments
        • Strong problem-solving and adaptability
        • Attention to detail and commitment to data quality

        2. Monitoring & Data Officer

          1. Data Management and Quality Assurance

          • Develop and implement data quality assurance protocols aligned with the evaluation design.
          • Monitor completeness, accuracy, and consistency of data collected across sites.
          • Conduct routine data verification and validation checks.

          2. Monitoring System Implementation

          • Establish and maintain monitoring systems for tracking implementation progress and key indicators.
          • Develop dashboards or reporting tools (in collaboration with Data Science Lead) to track real-time performance.

          3. Data Collection Oversight

          • Ensure adherence to data collection protocols (quantitative and qualitative).
          • Support field teams in correct data capture and reporting procedures.
          • Identify and address gaps or inconsistencies in data collection.

          4. Data Integration and Management

          • Coordinate integration of multiple data sources, including:
            • Facility data (e.g., registers, HMIS)
            • CDST system logs and usage data
            • Survey or qualitative data (if applicable)
          • Maintain secure and organized datasets for analysis.

          5. Support to Evaluation and Analysis

          • Prepare cleaned and validated datasets for analysis by the evaluation team.
          • Support definition and tracking of key indicators and outcome measures.
          • Contribute to preliminary data analysis and interpretation as required.

          6. Bias Mitigation and Data Integrity

          • Identify potential sources of bias related to data quality, missing data, or measurement error.
          • Implement corrective actions to strengthen data reliability.
          • Document data limitations and support transparent reporting.

          7. Reporting and Documentation

          • Maintain documentation of data collection tools, protocols, and changes.
          • Produce regular monitoring reports on data quality and implementation progress.

          Required Qualifications and Experience

          • Degree in statistics, epidemiology, public health, data science, or related field
          • Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) or research data management
          • Experience working with health information systems or digital health data
          • Strong skills in data cleaning, validation, and management
