Partnership for Equity: Gavi and GaneshAID Expanding Immunization in Mali

Recently in September, GaneshAID was honored to join the National Immunization Center (CNI), Gavi Secretariat, UNICEF, WHO, civil society organizations, and other partners in a joint mission to evaluate Gavi-supported immunization programs in Mali. The purpose was clear: to make sure that more children—especially those who have never received a single vaccine—are protected and that communities can rely on a stronger health system.

For over twenty years, Gavi has been the driving force behind extending vaccine coverage to millions of children in the world’s most vulnerable countries. This mission in Mali once again highlighted that Gavi’s leadership and resources are essential for progress. Thanks to its investment and guidance, health workers are better equipped, health facilities are stronger, and families in remote communities have more reliable access to vaccines.

One example is the Coaching de Performance (C2P) program. Funded by Gavi and implemented by GaneshAID, C2P was launched in March 2025 to support health staff directly in their daily work. It aims to reach 25 districts by 2028 and has already started in five. Since then, 283 supervisors have been trained to provide better support to vaccination teams, while 39 coaches and 272 frontline workers have learned to use a simple mobile app that guides their tasks. Behind these numbers are real stories: nurses who feel more confident, supervisors who can respond faster, and parents who now trust that their children will not miss out on essential vaccines.

Gavi’s support has also enabled GaneshAID to help Mali strengthen the vaccine supply chain through the Cold Chain Equipment Optimization Platform (CCEOP). Developed in December 2024, and officially approved by the Independent Review Committee in July 2025, the CCEOP application allows Mali to access Gavi funding for the procurement, installation, and maintenance of high-performing cold chain equipment. This means that vaccines can be stored safely and delivered even to the most remote communities, giving every child a fair chance at protection.

The Mali Learning Hub (Mali LH) is another initiative that brings together Gavi’s funding and GaneshAID’s implementation. Since 2023, Mali LH has worked with local institutions to understand why some children are missed by routine immunization and how to close those gaps. Through research and innovation, Mali LH has produced 25 knowledge products—including webinars, technical briefs, infographics, and briefing notes—and launched the Collaborative Intelligence Platform (PIC), a digital tool that strengthens coordination across national and subnational levels, provides health leaders with real-time data for better decision-making, helps identify and reach zero-dose and under-immunized children, and reduces inequalities in immunization.

Beyond Mali, the lessons from these programs are feeding into Gavi’s 2026–2030 strategy, ensuring that innovations tested here can help children in many other countries as well.

This joint mission was more than an evaluation—it was a reminder of what partnership makes possible. These achievements have only been possible thanks to Gavi’s support and leadership. GaneshAID is proud to implement these programs in Mali, working alongside national and international partners so that every child, no matter where they are born, has the chance to grow up healthy and protected.
