Closing Workshop: “STEP 2.0 Vietnam Empowers Health Supply Chain Leadership

Ha Long, August 2025 – After five days of intensive learning and exchange, the STEP 2.0 Strategic Training Executive Programme concluded with highly positive outcomes. Participants gave favorable feedback on the interactive learning approach, which combined theory with practice, and appreciated the strong support from faculty and facilitators. Health leaders shared that the program helped them reassess their roles within the system and equipped them with practical tools to drive change in preventive health and immunization.

“STEP 2.0 helped me gain clearer insights into issues in the health supply chain, analyze root causes, and develop concrete action plans.”
— Nguyen Huy Anh, Deputy Head of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, CDC Nghe An

The program was structured into clear steps, enabling participants to gradually strengthen and develop their leadership capacity in change management. Over five training days, key topics covered included: the distinction between leadership and management, the role of communication in driving change, building strong coalitions, crafting an inspiring vision, and developing strategic plans.

To deepen and integrate the learning, in-depth discussions, case studies, and resource-sharing activities were facilitated using the 8-Step Change Model. This framework emphasizes critical elements of transformation: creating a sense of urgency, building coalitions, developing and communicating the vision, empowering action, achieving short-term wins, and sustaining momentum to embed lasting change.

“The knowledge and skills from STEP 2.0 will allow supply chain managers to apply directly in their daily work, steadily succeeding on their journey of transformation and sustainable development.”
— Facilitator Hoang Duc Minh

STEP 2.0 Vietnam was organized by UNICEF, People that Deliver (PtD), GaneshAID, and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, as part of a global effort to strengthen leadership capacity in public health supply chains. The workshop brought together Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) managers from the General Department of Preventive Medicine, National Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pasteur Institutes, and provincial Centers for Disease Control. This diverse representation reflects the comprehensive landscape of Vietnam’s preventive health and immunization system.

Vietnam is proud to be the fourth country to implement STEP 2.0, following Djibouti, Cambodia, and Pakistan. Its presence in Vietnam not only strengthens the regional network of supply chain leaders but also underscores a long-term commitment to developing leaders capable of driving change and creating sustainable impact for communities.
