KLIC2025 in Vietnam – The Third Innovation Lab on Smart Systems for Health Equity and Coverage

Around the world, a new vision for health is taking shape—one that is smarter, more equitable, and more collaborative. Fueled by digital innovation and grounded in community realities, this vision challenges the status quo and inspires a bold reimagining of what is possible. In alignment with this trend, GaneshAID and the Knowledge Lab for Innovation Community (KLIC)—a think tank platform designed to accelerate innovation uptake—are leading strategic dialogues among countries, innovators, and donors. These efforts aim to identify systemic needs and advocate for smart health systems at the national level.

Strategic learnings from previous KLIC innovation labs

Since launching the first KLIC Innovation Lab in 2023 under the theme “Matching the Needs and Innovations: The Immunization Use Case,” GaneshAID has emphasized the importance of placing countries in the driver’s seat of their own health system modernization. This commitment is grounded in its extensive experience supporting LMICs across Africa and Asia in collaboration with leading development partners.

Building upon this foundation, KLIC2024 centered on “Leveraging Immunisation Innovations to Modernise Primary Health Care.” Through Hackathon sessions, the second Innovation Lab enabled country representatives to identify recurring challenges and co-create practical, locally relevant solutions. These sessions demonstrated the potential of community-owned, context-sensitive innovations to evolve from pilot initiatives into transformative, scalable systems. Over time, KLIC has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to advancing national health system modernization, promoting South-South collaboration, and embedding equity across every layer of health service delivery.

Key features and activities of KLIC2025
Carrying forward the momentum of previous Innovation Labs, KLIC2025 invites participants to engage in forward-looking discussions on smart systems and platforms that advance health equity and coverage.

Through in-depth Storytelling sessions and dynamic KLIC Talks, attendees will explore how artificial intelligence can support predictive planning, how geo-intelligence is being used to locate and reach underserved populations, and how open-source digital platforms are empowering data-informed, local decision-making. These technologies will be presented not as isolated solutions but as tools situated within the lived realities of developing countries, where the costs of inaction are most pronounced.

Moving beyond traditional presentations, KLIC2025 will elevate the voices of innovation users and creators, while fostering true co-creation through collaborative Hackathon formats. Participants will actively exchange ideas, refine prototypes in real time, and collectively expand the frontiers of digital transformation in health.

Participant profile and stakeholder representation

One of the defining strengths of KLIC2025 is its deliberately diverse and inclusive community. This is not a conventional or siloed event, but a curated ecosystem of stakeholders who rarely convene in the same forum—yet whose collaboration is essential.

Participants will include national health leaders such as EPI managers, digital transformation leads, and strategic planners. Their practical insights will ground discussions in real implementation needs. Alongside them, technical innovators—including AI developers, data scientists, and startup founders—will contribute scalable, ethical, and adaptable solutions.

Representatives from global institutions such as WHO, UNICEF, Gavi, Africa CDC, and the World Bank will share perspectives on policy trends, funding mechanisms, and cross-border collaboration. Equally critical are the voices of community leaders, youth advocates, gender equity champions, and frontline health workers, who ensure that the dialogue remains firmly rooted in equity.

Academic researchers will provide evidence-based insights, while funders and impact investors will explore pathways for scaling up transformative ideas. This rich and multidimensional participation ensures that KLIC2025 is not only informative but a catalyst for real-world change.

The strategic imperative for participation
The global health community stands at a pivotal juncture. Digital innovation has unlocked unprecedented potential for health system transformation. However, without inclusive design and deployment, such tools risk exacerbating existing inequities.

KLIC2025 presents a critical opportunity to ensure smart systems serve those most in need. It offers a platform to align national priorities with global momentum, transform ideas into actionable strategies, and move from fragmented efforts toward cohesive, people-centered systems.

Participation is not only encouraged—it is vital. Whether you lead health programs, develop technologies, fund initiatives, or advocate on behalf of underserved populations, your involvement is essential to shaping the future of equitable health systems.
