On 14 March in Hanoi, GIZ Health Program organized the closing workshop of the program Strengthening provincial health systems after eight years of implementation. The workshop received the participants from Vietnam Ministry of Health, GIZ Vietnam, Central Project Management Unit, Representatives from 5 project provinces, departments partners, non-governmental organizations and other relevant organizations and institutions. GaneshAID attended the workshop as a key partner of the Health Partnership Group – the forum which the Health Program of GIZ Vietnam involves in during the life the project.
Associate Professor Tran Quy Tuong, National Programme Director shared summarized the key outcomes of the 8-year project and highlighted the big contribution of the project to the close cooperation between Germany and Vietnam. “Each key result of the project is a brick to build the close cooperation between Vietnam and Germany”, said A/Prof. Tuong. Likewise, A/Prof. Tuong said that the sustainability of the project results has been paid attention by province. All provincial health departments have different relevant solutions to maintain the project’s results.
Delivering speech at the workshop, First Secretary/Deputy Head of German Development Cooperation, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany; Luisa Bergfeld, and GIZ Country Director Vietnam, Jochem Lange, Chief technical Advisor, Anna Frisch also emphasized the big contribution of the project to the cooperation of the two nations, the development of Vietnam health sector especially at grassroots levels.
The participants went through the key outcomes of the projects with two presentations for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project.
Participants also had opportunity to understand more about the project outcomes with in market place outside the workshop.
The project on Strengthening provincial health systems started from 2009 to June 2017 with two phases implemented in five provinces including Yen Bai, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Phu Yen. The phase 1 started from 2009 to 2013 focusing on strengthening planning and management of the health system and phase 2 emphasizing health service delivery. The project has contributed to build the capacity on planning and health management, hospital management for health professionals and managers at not only provincial levels but also district and commune levels. Thanks to the project capacity of health staff on specific profession such as screening, rational drug use, infection control was improved. The project successfully contributed to the health care system’s ability to meet the people’s needs. Minister of Health appreciates the contribution of the project team through awarding medal “For Population Health” to senior Technical Advisors, Dr. Christian Strosing and Certificate of Merit to project team members and contributors from five project provinces.
